Dear Dr. David B. Samadi:

I would like to formally thank you for the excellent care I received before and after the prostate operation I underwent at Lenox Hill Hospital two weeks ago. Your new robotic technique has been, as you warned us, so minimally invasive that it has allowed me to recover quickly. Surprisingly, before the first week of surgery was over, I was already visiting the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Therefore, I wish to record in writing the outstanding professional work and personalized treatment I received at Lenox Hill Hospital. Both the humane treatment and the physical space – a beautiful room with large windows – contribute to the patient's recovery. A few hours after the operation, patients from different parts of the world were walking down the hospital corridor, commenting that it was a real privilege to have been operated on by you. A Canadian, with whom I met, had been analyzing for several months the technical and medical alternatives that existed in Canada, the United States and Europe to deal with his illness. He came to the conclusion that your technique was the best. In my case, I was lucky enough to be referred by the 2010 Nobel Prize winner for literature, Mario Vargas Llosa, who informed me of the new procedures and achievements you had made.

I am currently the Director of the National Library of Peru (BNP). I believe that the valuable work that you have been doing at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York is something that should be better known in Peru and even in our neighboring countries. One of the public functions of the BNP – related to the Millennium Goals approved by the United Nations in 2000 – is to promote and monitor public health information campaigns such as prostate cancer. Let us refine ideas and prepare a program to see how the BNP can support you with the valuable medical work that you have been doing. It would be a great honor for us to be able to invite you to Lima in the near future in order to convene from there the various hospitals in my country – and if possible in neighboring countries – to organize a discussion among specialists who can spread your new prostate surgery technique. With this we would contribute to promoting culture and technology, but also information and health; blessings of modernity that save human lives.

With the greatest admiration and personal esteem,

Ramon P.
